April 1969
After being fired from his job, Tony Salvaggio started Salco Construction with his wife, Chris, with only $800 in their savings. This was incredibly risky with five children to support. They operated out of their home in north Baton Rouge, where their oldest daughter, Carolyn, worked as the draftsman.

April 1969
Salco signs its first construction contract with Rebel Rubber Stamp Manufacturing Company, a complete remodel & addition to Rubber Stamp’s manufacturing plant in Baton Rouge. At the same time, Salco hired its first employee, estimator John Bourgoyne, who retired from Salco in October 2013 after 44 years with the company.

January 1971
Angelo Silvio came to work for Salco as a superintendent. He retired in May 2012, after over 40 years with the company.

1973
Salco was incorporated. In the same year, Jeff Torrance, husband of Tony & Chris’ daughter, Carolyn, joined Tony in sales. Jeff later took on the position of President of Salco in May 1984 when Tony became Chairman of the Board.

Salco moved to its current location, a building built by Salco on Athens Avenue.

May 1984
Chris & Tony took 20 employees & their spouses to Maui to attend the National Sales Meeting for American Building Company. Attending these meetings with their employees would become a tradition for Tony & Chris until Chris’ passing in October 1996.

August 1984
Salco celebrated its 15th year anniversary with food and live entertainment at the UCT Hall. More than 600 relatives, friends and employees were in attendance to celebrate the milestone.

January 1985
By the mid-80’s the remaining four children – Greg, Paul, Lisa, & Laurie – had joined the family business.

May 1987
With the construction of a 7,000 square foot warehouse, Salco begins a treasured business relationship with Zapp’s Potato Chips. This led to the start of a special friendship between Tony and Mr. Ron Zappe, which would last until Tony’s passing in September 2009.

February 1989
Salco signs a contract with Alsace Management to construct EAGLE WAREHOUSE, the company’s first mega warehouse, which at completion in 1997, totaled 690,000 square feet.

November 1997
Salco begins its traditional Thanksgiving Turkey Fry. The Salco employees get together and fry turkeys for current customers, friends and employees.

January 1998
The Salco legacy continues as Matthew Torrance, third generation, is hired on as the newest salesman to work side by side with his father (Jeff) and Grandfather (Tony). Later, in 2005, Matthew will become Vice President.

May 1999
Salco celebrates its 30th anniversary with a huge barbeque. Al Richey, then President of Metallic Building Company, presents Salco with a crystal award inscribed with “acceptance of gratitude for 30 years of exemplary service and leadership”.

July 2000
Salco lands a groundbreaking contract with WEST BATON ROUGE EQUITIES, LLC for a 1,100,000 square foot warehouse that would be completed in three phases over a four year period.

July 2005
Salco signs a contract with new owners, Lewis & Lisa Roeling, of Rebel Stamp & Sign. This is the same company Salco signed its first building contract with in 1969.

2005 & 2006
Salco wins national building of the year from their metal building manufacturer two years in a row with LIVING FAITH CHRISTIAN CENTER (’05) & OASIS CHRISTIAN CHURCH (’06).

2014
In 2014, Salco celebrates 45 amazing years in the construction industry. Still a family owned & operated business, Salco continues to leave its mark in south Louisiana.

2016
With the historic flood of 2016 affecting Baton Rouge and its surrounding areas, the Salco team immediately begins assessing the construction needs of many of their customers. Salco helps businesses such as Lake After Hours, Lewy’s Physical Therapy, Sabel Steel, and Hi Nabor Supermarket, get back to business as quickly as possible.

Salco celebrates 50 years in business!
